How hard is it to replace the rear hatch motor in a 92 rs

I was thinking about stopping by the auto parts store today and finally replaceing my rear hatch motor that has been broken for about 4 months now on my day off today...
Just wondering what all needs to be done to get to it, and then when im actually to it what all is involved.
Thanks

umm.. just take off the plastic trim from the rear hatch by removing the big plastic screws back there... you'll find some bolts holding down the unit.. just unbolt the four bolts, unscrew the ground and the power and take it out. reverse to install the replacement. mine went bad too.. i just went to a junk yard and took it out of an rs. works like a charm now.

Re: How hard is it to replace the rear hatch motor in a 92 rs

the one on my iroc stopped working. it would not pull down the hatch if it was below freezing out side. then it stopped working all together. the gear inside of it that actually pulls the hatch down is made of plastic and the teeth were stripped off of it. i did not feel like replacing the motor so i retracted the latch by hand and it then the hatch would close all the way. after this it opens and closes like a normal hatchback without the electric pull down.

these things were a bad idea from the start. its things like these that led me to buy an iroc that had no power accesories (except for this damn hatch pull down motor).

Yeah i think the electric hatch was a bad idea also, it isnt that hard to open and close a hatch... a lot less hard then it is replaceing the motor every so often.
Mine closes fine, but doesnt open at all...

thats why after i wound down the latch, i unpluged the motor (killed the battery once cause it latched then kept running cause the gear was striped). afterwards it opens and closes like a regular hatchback. sounds like ur motor isn't the problem but the latch itself.

does it open if u unlock it with the key? mine didn't have the release button on the console so i never ran into this problem.

Yes, it just pops open, i dont even remember what it did when i pushed the button to open it back in the day since its been so long... but im thinking the problem is in the button not in the hatch

if u find the release switch on the console to be the problem, its a pretty inexpensive part and easy to put in.
