is it the clutch?

i got a 2000 teg gsrwith 45000 miles on it. and i use it for my daily driving car.. i put about 80 miles a day on it.. but sometimes on the freeway (during traffic) my car wont go to 1st. it just gets caught on something. then i gotta let go of the clutch.. wait for couple seconds.. then slam it into 1st..could this be the clutch problem? do i gotta replace the clutch? and if i do. which racing clutch or reg. clutch should i get? just a question guys.. thanks

Re: is it the clutch?

I had a 00 Type R and I had that problem too, did you try reving the engine up and putting it in, it always worked for me.

Re: is it the clutch?

This is normal for Hondas and Acuras, my '94 Civic does the same thing. It does help to let you know that you've shifted into 1st so you can't mistake it for 3rd gear. I can usually get it in fine if I'm only 5mph or slower, which should be the only time you need to put it into 1st anyways. But some people have said that double clutching works (take out of 2nd and put it into neutral, let out clutch, push in clutch, and put it into 1st), that also helps with people having problems getting it into reverse as well. Basically, it's not broke so don't worry about it, it's just an annoying occurance.

Re: is it the clutch?

don't mean to hijack this thread but I hear a thumping sound sometimes when putting the car into first (usually when attempting to put the car in first gear while the car is in motion or am braking at the same time) Of course this is at very low speeds. Also nothing to be worried about?

Re: is it the clutch?

When I have a hard time getting into 1st, I would normally just put it in 2nd and then put it in 1st. Works everytime. Actually made a habit of going to 2nd first before going to 1st everytime I get off of a red light.

Re: is it the clutch?

ya man my car does that...its in the gear box and its a security feature to make sure u dont go into 1st at high speeds. Apparently Honda didnt exactly perfect it so that happens!

Re: is it the clutch?

I am currious about something kind of similar. My '92 RS doesn't like to go from first to second at 4000+ rpms and my friends CRX does the same thing... I just made a habbit of shifting from first to second at the 4k mark which seems to make it pick up faster from second then waiting for the thing to fall in gear when the engine whines down but is this normal? Maybe something to prevent damage to the clutch and trany?
