89 Camry Check Engine Light

My Dad's 89 Camry's check engine light came on. Its a I-4 Engine with a 4 speed automatic transmission. What I want to know is it safe to drive until he takes it to a mechanic next week?

Probably. You may be getting really bad gas mileage or bad performance. Maybe you won't even notice the problem.

Check under the hood and see if you can find an obvious problem like a leak or disconnected wire. Listen to the engine and see if it sounds normal.

Have it looked at as soon as possible.
