Need to find rear axle code
It's a 97 Jimmy with either McKinnon or Buffalo rear. There is supposed to be a tag or stamp on it, but I can find neither. Is there a visual difference? Or maybe another place I can find a build code?
Thanks, Paul B |

Re: Need to find rear axle code
During the manufacturing process of the rear axle, there is a sheet metal tag attached to one of the cover bolts. The tag is approximately 5/8" wide and 3" long. It contains axle ratio, model, build date, etc. If the tag is missing, the RPO code can be found on a sticker attached to the glove box door. There is a thread in the Blazer forum that tells what each RPO code means. RPO codes on that sticker will tell every option on that particular vehicle. An RPO code is three characters in length.

Re: Need to find rear axle code
your jimmy should also have the axle info stamped into the left axle tube on the front side.
