Longtime Project: Tamiya Ferrari 641/2 1/12

Well,

I finally made up my mind and started this nice Formula One kit from Tamiya. I sold a lot of my kits to get hands on the Perfect Parts Detail Set. So this will be - at least I hope - a massive detail build. I try to make pictures while progressing, but most likely I will have pictures of the build at some sort of stages. Now the details of the kit:

The Perfect Parts Detail kit (Just to give you an impression of the number of Detail Parts youŽll get from this set)

The Decals I purchased up to now. After searching a long time I even got hands on the Fill-In Decal-Set from Studio27 (thanks to everybody on the board advising me!)

I started to do some work. As usual I start with the body. So I spent the last week with sanding, sanding, sanding and finally laying down the first coat of primer. On the pictures you see all sorts of body parts (side parts, cowling, nose etc.)

I also added from a sheet of styrene some sort of end parts right where the nose and cowling are going to join. I think itŽll look better than just having an open end at both parts:

So next will be to wait for the primer to dry and then sand again, laying down the next coats of primer, make all parts smooth as possible. And then I will be starting to color the body parts with TS-8 and flat black, where necessary (inside of the side parts). While IŽm waiting for the primer to harden, IŽll start to sand the chassis parts.
So I try to keep you updated, please be patient with progress pics. ThereŽs a job I need to earn money for colors, sanding paper, etc.

Comments welcome, as usual!

Looks like you've got a long term build on the go there, you must have sold quite a few kits to get the detail set, this is going to be a thread I'll be keeping an eye on for future updates. Good luck.

I suspect like many other people around here I have the 641/2, PP set and tobacco decals in my stash. I will be vicariously building it in my mind following your progress. Good luck with it all, the model will be a magnificent piece when completed.

Something tells me by the date of the original post, he won't be updating this build anytime soon...

Yeah! - you're probably right - sometimes I forget to check the date of the original post - why do people keep digging up old posts and re-starting them??? - John
