2001 Battery Replaced

I noticed a few weeks ago the van had a slow starter problem on first morning start up. I asked my wife and she said it was running fine except on first morning start. When i was driving I noticed it did not seem to have the performance I thought it had before. Pulled out the old volt meter and it came up as a ? mark.. So I started the van back up and was getting power from the alternator. Took the van to Advanced Auto and the battery tested bad.. Replaced with a Advanced Auto titanium series 1000 cold crank amps for 74.95.. Van runs great now.. I will say this about motorcraft batteries 6 years on a battery is great I had a taurus 1996 I got new as of 2003 it still had the same one in it.. Dont have that one anymore so i still wonder if the same battery is in it.. The only problem with buying a motorcraft battery from the dealer is the cost and who knows how long its been sitting in the parts bin. Advance Auto and other parts stores swap out batteries that have been sitting around for a time.

Re: 2001 Battery Replaced

Yep, motorcraft batteries do seem to last a long time. I'm still going on the original in our 2001 @ 58Kmi. A co-worker of mine just replaced the OEM in his 1997 F150 a few months ago!! There is just a few car battery manufacturers in the US. Not sure what makes one 'name' better than the other, but it does seem that way.

I have 160000 KM on my battery in my 99. It has a Motorcraft battery so I assume it is the original.

Re: 2001 Battery Replaced

The battery and alternator work in "concert". Each one, working at its best, helps the other to endure.

Therefore, the original alternator and the original battery get a "start in life" together ... so both may last longer than any replacement will have a chance to.

Just a private theory.
