Angry Changing Trans Fluid/Filter

1991 S-10 Blazer 4x4 4.3L

The time has come to do the transmission fluid and filter. I noticed first thing that it would be very tight getting the pan out due to the exhaust in front and the transfer case brace in back. I allowed the pan to drain then removed the last few bolts to find that there wasn't enough clearance to get the pan out.

So support the transfer case with a jack and off with the brace. Got the pan out. The new filter's neck is a little longer, so it doesn't fit as close to the trans. Now from the filter being a little lower, there is no room to get the pan between the filter and the exhaust. I need to lower the exhast or remove it. What a PAIN this has turned out to be! Of course the repair book says nothing about the brace or exhaust! Has anyone ever done one on an S-10 Blazer like mine?? Thanks.

Re: Changing Trans Fluid/Filter

Got 'er done. Had to take the Y pipe off to get the pan back on. The original filter was in 3 pieces which is why I didn't need to take the pipe off in the first place. She is all back together and running again.... now to deal with the other problems!
