Alarm Systems
Lately, I've been looking into alarm systems for my truck and I wanted to get everyone's input on which system they like and why. I'm leaning mostly towards the Viper or Python system right now with the LCD remote and remote start. I've had a Clifford system in the past and, although its a good name I had nothing but problems from that alarm and I'm not willing to invest my money in one of those again (truck would unlock itself, alarm would go off all the time for no reason, etc.). I also had an Automate on my last truck (built by DEI) which was a good alarm, but didn't have as many features as I'm looking for now.
Please sound off with your experience and opinions... I'd be glad to hear what y'all have to say!

Re: Alarm Systems
I have had viper alarms and alarm/starter combos in the past that were not the 2 way type but have not had any problems with them. Currently i have a Arctic start alarm / starter 2 way pager system made by compustar and have had it for almost 3 years now with only one problem being the shock sensor went and the guy replaced it for free even though the warranty had expired. I just think that you get what you pay for.

Re: Alarm Systems
Hey I checked out their website and I was pretty impressed with what I saw. My question is, do any major retailers cary their products and how does the price compare with Viper?

Re: Alarm Systems
viper and python are pretty much the exact same thing. best buy sells viper and circuit city sells python. i have sold and installed both and there are no differences at all. they are made by the same company which is DEI. they are the biggest security company out i believe. the have viper, python, hornet, rattler, boa, clifford, and i think a few others. viper and python are the higher lines. what area do you live in??

Re: Alarm Systems
Yeah, I know they're the same alarm, that's why I said Viper/Python, I was trying to use the 2 interchangeably. I'm basically interested in major competetors to this 2-way alarm. From what I've heard, this is a pretty sweet system, I just wanted to see if I could hear from people that post as to their opinions and if anyone knows of anything else similar or better before I go and drop $400.
I'm in central Texas and we have both Circuit City and BestBuy. We don't have a retailer here who carries the Compustar line, and I've never heard of 'em. So, being an installer, you think the Viper/Python is a good way to go? And I don't care who makes Clifford now, but I'm not going anywhere near that one again. It really sucks when I would leave my truck in a parking lot to go to class for 5 hours and then come back to have my doors unlocked. Thanks for your input!

Re: Alarm Systems
i would go with a python or viper because from muy experience in the last 5 years i have used several different ones and they are the most dependable that i have used and they have a very good factory warranty. if you are wanting remote start too, you are going to need a bypass for the passlock 2 system and the doorlocks. which is around 100 bucks in ILL. just a heads up, dei 457gw is the model of it. you might be able to buy it online a bit cheaper and just take it to the shop instead of buying it through them and save a bit. i just looked on ebay and saw the interface for 50 bucks shipped. i hope this helps.
