Engine Swap

Hello All. I have a 1990 oldsmobile 88 vin c 3.8 engine (car was totaled) and a friend of the family has a 1992 Bonnevile with a 3.8 as well (but I don't know the vin off the top of my head for the 1992 3.8, K or L comes to mind though).

I was wondering if any of you knew if the 1990 engine would swap easily into the 1992 bonneville? Would I need to swap the ECM and/or PROM chips (I think that is what they are called) as well?

The 92 bonnevile has a cracked rod and my friend doesn't feel like rebuilding the entire engine (it has 180k on it) and would really like my engine that only has 45K on it.

Thanks for the advice
-Eric

Re: Engine Swap

no. You will most likely need a trans, harness, mounts too.

Re: Engine Swap

Ok, I have the transmission for my 3.8, I have my mounts from my 88 (engine still in car), and I have all the electical systems in place.

The other engine is still in the Bonneville so all its mounts are in place...
