Value of 1982 300SD??

Sorry to throw this out to everyone, but I'm a bit uncertain what to do. I just looked over this nice 82 300SD this morning. But I can't test drive it on the highway or take it to a mechanic b/c the guy doesn't have any insurance on it, and he's asking 5400 (and isn't really flexible). This benz has 112k on the clock and has nearly no rust and a nice interior.

The car does need new tires and the both front windows do not roll up or down due to unknown reasons.

Is $5000 reasonable for this car?? I was thinking since it needed that work it should be discounted to $4000 or less.

Probably too late for you, but I'd walk away. For $5k, I'd want my mechanic to say that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it AND I'd want all the service records. Without taking it to a mechanic or driving it on the highway, it's not worth $1500.

$1,500.. LOL...Come on its a diesel mercedes.. These cars last for ever...If it sounds like it runs strong the motor, it is worth just for the engine $1,500.. It would be smart just to check things over fully before buying.. Offer the guy $4,400, he will sell...
