Removing 4.0 Litre With Tranny
Does anyone know or have you had the experience of pulling the engine with transfer cases and transmission attached together, on hoist? I do plan on pulling out the condensor and radiator before hand. Don't want the hassle of removing tranny underneath vehicle! I can't imagine all of that weight on two or four bolts screwed into the cylinder block. By the way... I've never noticed any lift brackets on this model, why is that? Wher are you all attaching the bolts with chain?

leave the transfer case in when you pull the engine trany combo, take off the front clip and remove the condensor and radiator as well to make things easy to get out

I've pulled the engine/trans combo on a 68 Camaro, but not on the Jeep. You'll want to get one of these. It makes it a lot easier because you can change the angle as you go.

You will want to remove the front cross bar and grille too, i have done a few of these and they are a real B**** to get out, i would leave the tranny or drop it from the bottom if you can, just a few bolts and the Torque converter bolts.. best of luck

Re: Removing 4.0 Litre With Tranny
Clutch jobs can be a bitch, fortunatly, i have dont one on a newer model cherokee. fortunalty, the trans is easy to drop. Took me about 3 hours plus another two for beer run and the 'stare at the shit and be confused' proceedure. I want to say the trans weighs 150 pounds or less, i could pick it up on my own. It's been about five years.

SPEEDDEMON-
can you tell me: when you pulled the tranny about 5 yrs ago, did you happen to just rotate the rear of tranny down to access top bolts for removal or just drop the engine down OR simply not do anything and just reach up there on top of tranny and remove bolts. Jeff - [email protected] |
