Power windows do not work... Plz help!!!

Power windows are not working, lights on center console are not working as well. I have a 93 318i... Anything you can help with will help. Thank you...

have you checked your fuses? your switches could be a possibility--try cleaning your switches with a tooth brush, make sure its making contact with each other--

and do they fully not work??
like when u press button what happenes??
if nothing it could b fuse or the engine is blown of the power windows
but if it makes a cranking noise it might b missing some teeth and its not locking and turning.

Hey, I had the same problem on my 93 325i. All windows and sunroof button didn't work. The mechanisms are fine, what it was on my car is this central 'security fuse' or something like that. It's not located with the other fuses (driver side of engine bay, top). I guess the fuse pops if there is an obstruction in the path of the window. I don't know if that's true but what i do know is BMW wants you to go to a certified technician to have this fuse replaced. It wasn't expensive. As for the lights in the switches not working? I have yet to solve that one. I heard it's seriously expensive to have the dealer fix, so I've tried a few things on my own with no success. I know where the buttons are anyway, so it isn't a big deal. Good luck

Hello..

I have the identical problem on my 92 318is. Here are the symptoms:

Windows and roof do not work, but will open/close the few mm's when the door is opened/closed.
The Sunroof will not function
The courtesy light will not light when the doors open, but the light can be manually turned on.
The central locks/power locks will not function.

The PROBLEM is a blown 5A fuse in the fuse box (under hood-drivers side) The CAUSE is unknown??? Sometimes the fuse will last for days, other times it pops instantly upon insertion.

I have removed the door panels and lubricated the locks, thinking it was causing the lock solenoid to jam...that did not solve the problem. nothing has been added electrically, and I don't see anything grounded or operating abnormally???

If anyone has a solution to this, I would greatly appreciate it.

It sounds like the "Comfort relay". It lives up over the pedals, and is normally a blue "cube". Known for cracked solder, this relay will go out completely, or just intermittently. I had the same problem with my '98 323IS. A new relay is @$30.00.

There is a switch on the dash, behind the ignition... it's a pushbutton.

This will cut off the circuits that control the windows and such...

play with that FIRST.

Then, check your fuses... they're under the hood, at the back drivers side... I believe the fuse you're looking for is #36... maybe #33. It should be a 10A fuse.

Dude , you rock!! I did not get an owners manual with my 318i, and so I was s.o.l. with my inoperative power windows and had exhausted all options. I got into the blue box and Voila! End of story...
