well damn....

after thinking this was the "ultimate vic forum" and not getting a single useful reply, can anyone at least tell me what performance mods are out there??? as stated before im a little new to the 4.6, and am now (after driving a few) KILLING myself for not just buying a stang, and being like EVERYbody else and their grandmother. but at least itd be a fast one. i wanted to be different, but without good advice its a little difficult. somebody help seriously. headers, intakes, anything. im also looking for the 96-98 gt rims. the 5 spoke, dual spokes. essentially making them 10 spokes i guess. but those 17s would look great on a CV. anybody know where to get em? new or used, gonna look at ebay. perfomance anybody!!!! i guess i looked at the wrong vehicle......

Re: well damn....

well if you are looking for performance here is where I would start off frist. I would put a dual exhaust on the car first that will give you at least 10+ Hp. I would also think of putting a cold air intake or just a better flowing filter to go with that exhaust. Now if you want off the line and quicker 0-60 I would go gears and a posi depending what you have in it now. Also I would think of a shif-kit or performance valvebody. Now if you search the internet a lot of people sell performance products that will fit your 4.6 I do not know of any off hand because I mostly deal with the 5.0-5.8 Crown vics. Also certain year mustang parts will fit your car too I am just not sure of the years that will work.

Re: well damn....

They cover ALL things Panther (Crown Vic, Grand marquis, Town Car, and Marauder) at www.crownvic.net.

Since I do not surf the 'net as an occupation, and only primarily as a hobby that I hope can be of help to others, I am sure you can understand that answering every question that has been asked 1,000 times before is not very high on my priority list or that of most other people.

That is not to say that I do not have some correct and useful performance related information for you.

Dual exhaust is a starting point, exactly. Everything else you do brings more air in, if you cannot get it out, the gains will be small if anything.

Installing a better "filter" will get you absolutely nothing. I ahve actually spent a lot of dyno time with my vics, and K&N offers zero for them or even a Marauder. However, installing a Marauder filter box assembly (MAF, box, and filter) WILL give you a power gain. Unfortuneately, you also need a tune for this because the Marauder MAF is different than the stocker. The good part is, the the folks at www.sctflash.com or www.blueovalchips.com can provide said tuning and the transmission function will be improved as well.

You can remove your stock intake and install the newer "PI" version with the aluminum coolant crossover to gain around 15 RWHP. If you add the "PI" (that's Performance Improved) cams from a '99 up Mustang or '01 up 2V V-8 from anything, you will when combined with the other mods above, make nearly as much power as an '01 GT, but the Vic weighs about 500# more.

Gears will get you ZERO of a 1/4 time reduction even with the mods listed above. I had a 225 RWHP '99 CV with 3.55s, and same car with 3.08s, the 1/4 times were within 0.05s with either gear. What I am saying is that there is more time improvement with weather and the driver then with gears.

With the above mods, you can expect 1/4 times in the 15.5s range.

A good website to try is ADTR.NET they sell anything and everything for panthers. The tech guy chris is also very helpful and knows vics like the back of his hand.
