Glass packs

My friend has glass packs on his mark VIII, and he heard that if spray it with cold water while they are warm, and rev it, drive it around and so forth, over time the fiberglass comes out, increasing the sound.

Anyone heard of this and if it actually works? Any bad side effects?

A friend of mine did this water thing you're talking about and it ended up sounding very not good. He ended up switching them out for some flowmaster 1 chamber mufflers.

Re: Glass packs

if you're going to ruin your mufflers like that why not just go all out and run straight pipes?

I can't speak for other places but the cops in the towns around me don't care what you run exhaust wise as long as it has mufflers and the glasspacks count. Besides you can get them for like 20 bucks a piece so it's not that big of a deal.

Re: Glass packs

well if im correct glasspacks were used on old muscle cars werent they. ive heard them on v6 cars and they sounded terrible. id imagine a 4 cyl wouldnt be to great, to be honest i dont know how good theyd sound on a v8 but im pretty sure thats what there most poular use is. so i wouldnt recomend it unless you have a 427 or something.

Re: Glass packs

I've heard of it, and I did try it because my glasspack didn't do a heck of a lot to make my exhaust louder. I parked my truck on level ground, turned it off and sprayed some water so it would settle in the glasspack, then I turned it on and revved the engine several times. I don't think it really did anything... over time the glasspack will wear out and all the glass will fly out... I ended up getting a straight pipe put in place of the catalytic convertor.

What brand do you have? Mine is a Flowtech Red Hot. All the people I talked to online and in shops said there's no real way to know what it would sound like until I tried it, but the shops were all saying it will be way too loud, the cops would pull me over right away... all it did was add a humming sound, not nearly loud enough. You could try a different brand though.
