1964 galaxy XL convertable

I have a 64 xl conv.,with a 427 eng, auto trans,1- 4 barrel carb.shifter on the floor.No power steering,or brakes.I am the 2nd owner of this car,1st owner has died.It has a (R)in the serial #.I drove this car for 15 years, but now in bad shape,rust wise.Some say that Ford only made 4or5 of them for NASCAR.Does any one know about it. I'm no expert on codes or how many were made, but a auto convertable doesn't sound like a NASCAR to me. They were usually 4speed fastbacks.
