Completed: '65 GTO convertible (AMT kit)

Hey everybody, this is my first post here (I'm from the drawing forum). Tell me what you think. I'm not an experienced model builder so any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. this model was based on a drawing I did

A few questions:
- What kind of paint do most people use on models?

- are there any kinds of clear coat that can go over Createx acrylic paint and make it water resistant? Would spray enamel work or would it screw up the paint job? I used Createx clear coat on this one and it didn't give the high gloss finish I was looking for.

Here's the interior, the guages are all hand painted and took alot of work!

Model and drawing look awsome! Welcome to the modeling section! That would be cool to see a GTO built up just like the drawing..I mean, to me, it looks chopped, shortened and shaved. I guess that is what you were going for in the pic? Model is great tho!! Nice job!

Looks good for a first, or at least early, model. I really dig the accompanying drawing. Your interior work looks great!

I'm not sure about Createx, but you may be able to spray some acrylic (like Tamiya in the jar) clear over it? Don't take my word for it, though, I don't want to be responsible if it's a disaster.

A lot of us use automotive lacquers through our airbrushes, whether it's Cobra Colors, House of Kolors, something we found at the auto paint store, or even decanted touch-up paint or Tamiya spray cans. Even more of us use lacquer from a rattle can, like Tamiya sprays or the new Testors lacquer system. There are plenty of other types of paint out there that people use with great success; just about everyone here will have a different answer to the same question of "what paint do you use?" It comes down to personal preference, though most will agree that lacquers are easiest to work with and shine up best.

Keep up the great work, and now that you've been bitten by the scale model bug, you may never go back (much to your wallet's dismay!)

Re: Completed: '65 GTO convertible (AMT kit)

great work! love that color.
and great drawing. very beautiful too.
so neat! nice interior detailing.

I'm livin' in Japan. so, maybe it can't help you.
Japanese popular paints areTamiya and Gunze, in my opinion.
people use airbrushes or can spray.
more advanced modelers are usually uses airbrushes.
there's few people who uses paints made in America.
sorry, as for this information, you are not helped.

Great build. Yours turned out better than mine. I built the same kit and the chassis was warped and the wheels didn't line up right

Re: Completed: '65 GTO convertible (AMT kit)

Thanks everybody!

Hittenswitches: I used createx clear coat, but it really didn't seem to do much at all.

Blubaja: the drawing wasn't meant to be chopped and shortened, just poorly proportioned

*would it work if I use non-acrylic clear coat (lacquer or enamel) over acrylic paint? or would I be asking for a disaster?

Thanks again for the help

Alex

Re: Completed: '65 GTO convertible (AMT kit)

Ya man...it depends how much you sprayed on it though...How many coats did you do...I usually put about 3 or 4 coats on mine to get a really good shine to the models
