Question Tire size/rating

Eventhough I don't have them I really want a new set or rims that are 17x8 and I can't figure out what all these numbers and speed ratings mean. I really need the help so please reccomend a size. If you must know I will be doing almost all street driving.

17 is the size of the rim itself. While 8 is how wide the tire is. Most people put Z rated tires on their cars because they are the ones built for speed basicly. Infact I can't see not having z rates tires on a car.

Re: Tire size/rating

8 is actually how wide the rim is

for 17's on a DSM, use 215/50/17's as your tire size

Re: Tire size/rating

Example: 195/60HR/15

195 is the width of the contact patch. 60 is the asspect ratio or height between the rim and the contact patch & 15 is the rim size. You then have seep ratings upto Z. In this example its H or "upto" 125-130 mph.

Anytime you make changes to your wheels, from the stock rim size you will effect your wheel speed sensors, messing with your speedo, abs, tcs. But most importantly it will effect your final drive ratio in your tranny.

I explaned how it works in the Tiburon section. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...light=scottsee
