2001 beetle charging ploblems

I have a 2001 new beetle 2.0L automatic. I have replaced the alternator and the battery but still after driving the car for about 20 min the ABS light comes on then the air bag light comes on then the brake warning light comes on and flashes and beeps then the car dies and that battery is dead. If I leave that car sit for A hour it will start but as soon as I turn the headlights or the heater on the same lights come on and the car dies again. Has anyone have a suggestion of what the problem could be???

Sounds like a bad earth to me - check both neg and pos cables to the battery and also ensure all connections are not loose. As a long-shot I'd run a cable from the engine to the chassis/body to ensure the motor is electrically connected to the body. The voltage regulator is inside the alternator so that should be OK.

Re: 2001 beetle charging ploblems

beetle instrument clusters are known to go bad allll the time. very common.

is this a tdi? If so I would say check the power supply relay and glow plug relays (common to overheat and open the circuit in the relay)
