B16 Greddy Turbo Help

I need some help. Please reply.

Car: Honda Civic SiR 1999
Engine: B16A2 Stock
Milage: 60,500 miles

I am currently saving money to finally make my dream come true an force introduce my engine. I am planning on buying a Greddy turbo kit in 5 - 6 months. I have heard that this kit is VERY reliable and it wont kill the engine, and it will give it very decent power.

Here is the question: If i install the Greddy Kit on my car, could I count on my engine to be reliable for 60,000 more miles, having said that the kit will be installed when the engine will have 65,000 miles. It is my only car and i want to use it as an everyday driver. My desired boost level is 8 psi , with this amount of pressure will the completely stock engine withstand the stress for a long time? Do i have to forcefully change something (clutch? rods?) to run the kit at 8 psi and be VERY reliable?

Thanks a lot.

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

clutch is iffy, but the rods will be fine...IMO you can get better bang for the buck if you build something yourself rather than buying a kit, but the kit is convinient

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

If ANY racing is done the stock clutch will probably be the first part to wear out so plan on getting another one...and yes it can be reliable as long as you dont beat the crap out of the motor

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

usually a B16 will be perfectly reliable for shy of 300whp....if you go to HT, there is a thread about the highest hp stock block.....B16 is somewhere in the 390whp range......but GSR's like mine are at 480

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

the stock clutch will go out fast.

http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

i personally wouldnt try taking my stock block further than 350whp on boost. ive blown two blocks already. first one trying to go past 350 whp and blew 3 hole in the block (leaned it out too much on the dyno :P). the second was boost creep that killed it and bent a rod.

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

i know alot of people and have talked to alot of people about how long theyre cars lasted under boost, i would hope for the best but expect the worse as far as that goes. i have blown my motor 4 times, i started off with a stock block with the "magic head spacer" and FMU and the motor lasted for about 50K miles like that running about 15 psi, when i spun a rod bearing. Then i rebuilt with JE pistons and i forget what rods i had and about 5k miles later the oil seal went in my turbo and i ended up breaking 2 of the rods i had just bought. then i sent the block out to Eagle to get sleeved and had JE pistons and Eagle rods, all that good stuff. got the car back together, installed a hondata and all and one cold night for whatever reason my car boosted from the normal 15-16 psi range smacked 25 lb for about 3 seconds and melted all 4 of my pistons and spit pieces of them out the exhaust into the turbo and chewed the exhaust blades on my turbo all to hell. so i sent the block back to eagle...lol... had them rebalance everything put Weisco pistons and all back in, bought an EMS, built the whole head and I went over every little thing in the engine and i got 10k now without any issues at all.

i have mainly learned that fully built motors...400 HP+ dont normally last longer than 30K.

bolt on kits if you get 50K is pretty lucky.... im sure many have lasted longer, many less.

b16a2 295whp sc34. 45k - 125k miles, 3 years, compression and leakdown is 210 across the board and less than 8% leakage on all cylinders.

b16a2 235whp jrsc. 28k - 130k miles. 4 years, compression and leakdown 200 acorss the boards and less than 10% leakage on all cylinders.

the build will last depending on how reliable you make it

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

Hondata is overrated, but go for it if you want....Crome Pro, Crome, or Uberdata will work just fine, but if you want to spend the extra $300................

Re: B16 Greddy Turbo Help

hondata is definately overated. it was the first system i used. learned alot from it. if i had to do it all over again, id go uber instead. hondata was just too expensive.
