Calling all jl audio w3 owners

hi, i've got two 12 inch jl audio w3 version 1s, and i was wondering if you experts would know if they could handle 500 continuous? i know the rms is 250 and the peak is 500 for the old ones, but i've got a friend whose got three 12 w1v2s running about 333rms per sub, so about 1000 watts total, and the 12 w1 v2 is rated at 150 rms, i am guessing that the w1v2s have newer technology than the old w3s, but i am not sure. by what he was running i thought i could hook up a 1000/1 to my w3s and be fine. any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

Re: Calling all jl audio w3 owners

It depends on the rest of the details of the subs for example. If the two w3's you have are 2 ohm dual voice coil subs then wire each in series to make 2 4 ohm subs and then wire the two of them in parallel to the amp to get 1000 watts going into 2 ohms. If that is the case then they can easily handle that as that would be the recommended rms power for each coil. It also depends on if the amp is rated at 1000 watts rms as long as the rms of the amp falls between the rms and peak of the sub you'll be ok as long as you don't crank the gain all the way up.

JL is a mainstream company, they dont overrate they dont underrate, putting 500w on it will only gain you 3dB and you are seriosuly risking blowing them. I would NOT reccoemnd 500w RMS on a 250w RMS JL sub for Daily. Now if you plan on compeating mroe power to you but thoes arent the greatest subs to be compeating with.
