So they want to total it...what?

Hi All,

Just have to vent a little frustration. My CRX got bumped from behind, got the top corner/edge and the edge along the hatch and a couple of small scratches. The estimate is 2100.00 Now their insurance says my car is worth 1200.00 so they want to total it. NO WAY IN HELL!! I got 4g's into it. What can I do. Any help will at least calm me down. Those son's of bitches I'm gonna kill'em. AAaarrrrrrrrrg! Sorry, but is there a way to save my SI

Please....

SH

Right. Get the money, buy the car back and get your parts off it.. Use excess money to get another shell. EASY.

Worth it??? NO

I can fix the damage no problem for less than 300.00 myself. There is not alot of damage. It didn't even break the glass.
Shit, What ever happened to (you damage you fix). end of story.

They arent going to take your car, they will cut you a check for the value of the car and consider it totaled.

good lord! Patience with the "Post Quick Reply" button man, you got to give it time to load.

But unless you had an appraiser come and look at the car with all it's mods, then you can't count any of that in the price of the car. And $1,200 for a 10+yr old car doesn't sound unreasonable in the least. That's why I only pay for liability through my insurance company, they'll give it to you in the ass every time. Another thing to think about is what will happen to your insurance payments with your title changing (to salvage maybe?). If it doesn't go up too much, then say screw it; keep the car, take the $ and fix it yourself.

Re: So they want to total it...what?

Yeah, but most states won't allow you to get a plate with a salvage title. I know MS won't...

Yeah the dumbass came out but he did not let me know he was there. So he saw a dirty rained on non garaged car that was parked under a tree. I think he made up his mind at first glance. The prick. He didn't see the best part of the car. The motor.

So how do they get away with paying $1200 when there was $2200 worth of damage. If the car wasn't fixable I could understand but to total a very good car for a small ding is just not right.

Thanks for all of your responses I thank you.

Re: So they want to total it...what?

Because if the amount of damage is more than the value of the car, they total your car. I have no idea why they are giving you $1,000 less than they should, that's something you should ask them.

Re: So they want to total it...what?

OK, when a car is totaled, they give you the blue book, or what THEY think the car is worth... yeah, YOU could sell it for 3-4g... but to them its not worth it... since the car is only "worth" 1,000, they give you what they think will replace the car.... not fix it... that why you dont get the $2000. the damage is over the TOTAL price of the car...aka totaled... so (to them) theres no point in giving you $2000 to fix it, when its worth 1000.(reguardless of how much $ u put in it). stupid, i know... ahha, they tried to tell me an 86 fiero, primer grey, cracks everywhere, was worth $2000... RIGHT, i paid $400, oh well, whatever you say... i made $1600 off a wreck..haha

I have been doing some research and have found this:

To agree to settle a claim is to get a fair settlement, Not getting Market value. Now the words fair settlement mean both parties agree with it.

So I am waiting for the SOB to get back to me. It will probably be two weeks til I hear from them. I will let you know how it goes.

I still say you damaged it you fix it. What is the problem with that. It should not matter what car it is. I damage something I have to fix it, or pay to have it fixed. Why do they have a get out of paying card. F- that

They are not going to put a salvage title on it either.

SH

Re: So they want to total it...what?

Hey they got back to me. so yea she says totalled @$1200. Salvage =$170 so I get $1028 plus my car back. Salvage title too. But she said she would take a look at my reciepts but doesn't promise nothing.

Is there a any another steps besides going to a lawyer.

I am calling the guy/assessor that came out to look at the car and see if he will look at the receipts and make an adjustment on what he say's the car is worth.

I am trying to get some pictures for you all to look at so you know I am not talking about a P.O.S.

So if you all have any more sugg's... Please

THX, SH

Re: So they want to total it...what?

I'm not sure why you couldn't total the car and then buy it back. Salvage title or not it's your car. Here is my .02

When I bought my car, my brother ran a carfax while I was waiting for the ebay auction to end and I could fly up to NJ to buy my car. Well, my brother tells me there is a salvage title with no existing records prior to current ownership (before NJ the car was built and riced up in Florida). Long story short, I got the car titled clean here in SC.
