I had made a post about this not too long ago. Since then ive changed the fluid and put on a t/a aluminum cover. The whine is still there. Someone had mention tightening something somewhere....There is some play in the differential. While I am driving and I let off the gas I hear the whine, then if I just stick my foot back on the gas without progressing into it I can here the gear catch because there is slack. The whine only happens at cruising speeds when coasting. I can also hear the slack in the gears when I slow down and the transmission starts downshifting. And some of you may know the 700r4 doesnt have the most seemless of downshifts. Anyways is there something that I can tighten or adjust?

Re: differential whine
You know, when i install the rear, i thought mine was whining aswell. Took me 2 days to figure out where the hell the noise was coming from. My ebrake cables where fulling attached to the underbody and where dangling on top of the driveshaft. Thank god the shit didn't wrap around. Could've been gameover...

Re: differential whine
....hmmmm.....i dont think thats my problem but it sounds possible when i think about it....the ebrake cable thing that is....doesnt explain the slack. I turned the drive shaft when I had it on the ramps and with my hand I could move it about a 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch in rotation.

Re: differential whine
pulling the rear out of our cars is nothing at all after the third or fourth time you can do it in less than 20 min....it takes longer for me to get my car up in there air and on jack stands then it does to take the rear out

Re: differential whine
You adjust backlash by shimming the ring gear via the differential closer or farther away from the pinion gear. Whinning is not usually the result of too much slack but not enough. Are your gears original or is this the result from someone installing them?. The whinning can also be caused by a bad bearing but if I had to guess and unfortunetly I am left doing that. I would say that your pinion bearing is probably shot due to someone overloading preload on the pinion via a heavy duty impact wrench via the pinion nut.

Re: differential whine
pretty sure the gears are original.
