Re: valve cover removal

no you don't need to take out the spark plugs... but you do need to disconnect the wires ( duh) if want the valve cover to come off...

Re: valve cover removal

Remember too the torque spec is 36 in-lbs. You don't want to crack it.

Red face Re: valve cover removal

Its cool MEX..i wasnt mad. Was jsut playin the duh game back. No hard feelings bro.

Yea CRUNCHY I had visa gift card so I got it off extremepsi for 40 bucks. Came it the next day and put it all on today. Only thing is..cover cracked a bit where the pcv valve screws into. Is it bad that pcv valve isnt all the way in and air can escape in and out the crack?'

Re: valve cover removal

umm i would also use a little bit of rtv gasket before i you put the new vavle cover gasket on, i know i always do and i never have leaks, umm also number your spark plug wires so you dont get them mixxed up, and take out your spark plugs and check for wear its a good time to check shit since your pulling off the vavle cover.

i hope that helps good luck

Re: valve cover removal

well unfortuately by cracking that valve cover, you pretty much ruined it. It happens all the time though, the crack will only get worse. they only take like 2 lbs of torque. If I were in your situation I would find a used valve cover quick. That crack will get worse and eventually leak. If you wait a long time and the crack gets worse, then you'll probably have to replace the gaskets, which are new. But if you replace the valve cover now, at least you're able to reuse the same gasket.

Re: valve cover removal

Some people patch up a crack temporarily with JB Weld. But hey look on the bright side, now you have an excuse to get a powdercoated cover (~$80). And be sure to use *a little* rtv around the half moon. It's a common leak point.

Re: valve cover removal

You guys have any good places to get valve covers? I seen them on machv I think for 250(way too much). The only other place really is e bay. I dont wanna do business with the companies who want your valve cover sent in either..i hate that crap.

Actually, I can help you out on this. I recently replaced the valve cover gasket and realized I had a tiny crack in the cover. So, I searched for a shop that sells and powder coats our covers. I found http://www.boneheadperformance.com . Chuck (the owner) is a great guy, and has a great business. Always replied to my emails within like 3 hours. I just actually received my valve cover from him today. I'll take a picture of it and post it up. Hold on.

I opted for the candy red cover with polished letters, candy red / mirror mitsu etched oil cap, and stainless hex bolts. Add in shipping and it came to $210.95. I looks AMAZING. Haven't put it on yet. I also got the polished aluminum spark plug cover from RRE. Looks great in combination with the color and polished letters. I'd definately recommend BoneHeadPerformance.

EDIT: Oh ya, you have to do the $60 core charge for the cover, but it's fully refundable if you send your old cover back in good condition (no chips, cracks). Mine has a crack so I can't get the $60 back.

Re: valve cover removal

That does look really good. Congrats. I'm just not trying to spend that money right now. Bone head is all over e bay so I'm just going to keep my eyes open for a color I truly like or maybe just a cheap replacement. Whatever comes 1st at the right time. Thanks for the help man. Be careful with torque'ing that pretty thing. Any other good places to check for valve covers?
