Trans Filter Change

Hi All,

I am going to change the trans filter and wanted to know if anyone knows what the torque should be on the bolts when I put the pan back on? Also is there anything I should know before getting started?

2001 3.9L V-6 with 34K miles on it.

Thanks.

Re: Trans Filter Change

Get the same filter ( the one encased in plastic if thats the one you have) use the cork gasket and tq it to 70 inch lbs the first time then 80 then 90. use ATF+4 ONLY! about 5 qts should get the job done just on a filter change

Re: Trans Filter Change

if you dont have an inch/lb torque wrench you can go by feel. less is more and youll know when youve put too much. the gasket will squeeze out. anyway the black gasket is a lot nicer than the cork one IMO. you can put the pan on w/out any adhesives. there should be 4 noticeably smaller holes in the gasket. set the gasket on the pan and put those 4 bolts in first and the gasket should hold the bolts. put em on and get all the bolts started. go around and snug up all the bolts then go back and put a bit more on em. on the last pass you wanna make sure they all feel the same and maybe put a tiny tiny turn on each of them. if the bolt will not turn youve tightened em wayyy too much.
