Blazer problems
Hey guys, I appreciate all the info that is on this website. I know many people say that, but it true, thanks a ton, you helped in ways you don't even know. One thing that would be better, if people who post write a finished post, then those searching our answers, can see if it worked or not. That would help out a ton! Plus, we like to see if we actually did help.
Anyway, I am pretty sure my CPI is done. I am ordering the parts today. I am currently getting about 8 miles to the gallon and it is killing me. It has a rough idle, the acceleration is fine, and I looked inside the plenum and saw some washing inside, so I am pretty sure that it needs o be replaced. but there the Blazer has been doing some weid things lately. I drive the car to school everyday, so my wife drives the Blazer arount town. She called me up yesterday evening saying it would not start, it wouldn't even try to turn over. It eventually did, and started up ok. The lights were working, so it wasn't the battery, plus I just changed the battery about a month ago. So it is not that, but it wouldn't even try. Then this morning I get a call, it wouldn't even start. The lights wouldn't come on, the radio, no power at all. Are these two problems interrelated? Or do I have a whole new problem with it now? I am pretty sure the CPI is bad like I said, but once I fix that, will it solve this other mystery problem? Thanks a ton CER

Like year and engine and trans?
A good fuel pressure test will help find a leaking CPI unit. If the engine will not turn over unless it is locked up from fuel flooding a cylinder is a different problem. MT

Depending on what year your blazer is you may have ignition switch that is failing. Certain years are notorious for this. What year is your truck?

You may have two different problems working together. In addition to working on your CPI troubles, I would buy a battery terminal brush and clean up all connections to the batery, and ground straps to the block. But trust me, a hard starting truck from a blown CPI also eats the life out of your starter, so it could be at least three things getting you down. Once you clean the battery and terminals up, put it on a 10 amp charger for about 8-9 hours, then leave it overnight with a 2 amp trickle charge to top it up to eliminate the possibility of a low-power no-start condition.

Yea,Also some of the older trucks had a fusable link down by the starter.I had one once about burnt all the way through,and would only keep a connection every 3rd or 4th try.It went all the way.I cut it out of the wire,added a short piece and wasy good to go.With my 95 I havnt had to replace the starter yet,so i cant say if there is one or not.
Pull 2 or 3 plugs one at a time.This will tell you if fuel has filled your cylinders.I bet thoug you have 2 differant problems,and your starter not turning over has nothing to do with "your" cpi problem.  Look for wires on the passenger side under the hood.there might be some laying on your exhaust.  Also a good chance it is your starter,I've seen them go bad in the way you describe yours.
