Do I need new door rubbers?
On my 99 Silverado I've had to fully adjust the strikers in to keep the 3rd and passenger doors from vibrating and driving me nuts.As a result anyone using the 3rd door has to slam it too get it to shut it tight which cant be good for it so it left me wondering if mabey the door seals are crushed(wore out)?My brother in law has a 00 3/4 ton 4 door and he doesn't have the door rattles like mine but he also doesn't have the miles on his truck I do either.Anyone else experience this and what did you do about it?How expensive are new door seals?

That could be it. Also check the hinge pins to see if they have any massive wear on them.

Re: Do I need new door rubbers?
Door pins are good in both doors. The rattle is coming from the latch where the passenger door mates to the 3rd door.I thought about taking some of that weather stripping thats 3/4 or 1" wide and sticking it the whole way around the doors and loosen the strikers up to see what that does for me.I'm not positive but I think that new seals are mondo expensive so I would like to try this first and if it works then look at replacing them.

Re: Do I need new door rubbers?
I can't help you, because I have the exact same problem with my 2000. I would say the rubbers are good because I have experience this for years. Never had the stealer fix it, because it only arises in the winter. Never tried adjusting the door, don't know how(anybody?????)
Also have wind noise from front doors in cold and cross wind, would suspect a relationship. Been through the forum with that one, no luck. |

Re: Do I need new door rubbers?
I have a 2000 and I had lots of problems with the doors sealing until a mechanic showed me that the door seals needed to be pushed back fully onto the door frame. So, every once in a while I open both doors and hit the seals with my hand and they go back into place.
