has anyone seen this before?im an electronics tech(not a bmw one though)and this is strange, but the symptoms are related.when you roll up drivers window, once it reaches the top, the sunroof opens.roll the same window down and a rear window will go up.or another window (pass. or driver)will go up or down.what gives?is there a "module"that controls all this and has some malfunction. thanks in advance. Re: 92 525i power window/sunroof probs
Gary:
I'm an ET too and a amateur mechanic. I have a 89 525i, and had not thought much about the power windows since I replace the switch module in the center console a few years back. Funny thing, spilling coffee into it made it unhappy. I have the Bentley book and a quick glance at the power windows schematic reveals a "General Module" which seems to be a ECU of some sort for the power windows, and sunroof. It is located in the rear power distribution box, which is under the rear seat. I would try removing it and cleaning the contacts, the insert and remove it a couple times to "wipe" the connectors in the socket. There is also a relay module involved, also in the rear power box. I haven't checked but most likely these plug into the box. Do you have an owners manual? If so , look on page 37. the last paragraph says something like: "addtional function after the doors have been closed, insert the door key in the lock and turn it in the "lock" direction and hold it there. This will close and electric windows and sunroof" I think this will reset and re-sync the windows with the system... but I am not sure. It's worth a try... I strongly recommend the Bentley book, you can get it online at http://www.alleurasianautoparts.com Good luck, let me know what happens... |

You have a faulty relay module.
