Re: painting interior questions HELP

thats ALOT of work.. i suggest u get re-upholstered. like the roof and wut not. when they dismantle the interior to reupholster, you can paint the parts u want painted.

i only painted the lower dash and some trim in my car. that was as far as i was willing to go.

if u really want to do everything yourself, ive heard of sprays that change the color of the cloth. and buy a helms manual. it'll show u how dismantle your interior piece by piece. the interior pieces wont b that hard to paint. just remove them carefully and organize the screws and clips. to prep just wash them with dish washer soap. dry them well. [make sure to wear gloves. body oils tend to repel paint.] wipe it down with alcohol. primer. and spray many light coats of color. make sure the paint u use is for vinyl/plastic. the ones for metal will eat the parts.

as for the dash, thats a pain in the ass to remove. ive heard of people painting it while its still attached. not sure about the process.

i agree but instead of using a vinyl/plastic paint i would use dye. I had the same thing with the tan interior tryed to paint it and a very bad decision. After one hot day everything got sticky (probably the clear coat) and the paint was easily stracted off. Yea i did the soap and cleaned it well also. As well use an adhesive. If your gonna paint it anyway make sure you do proper preping don't be impatient. Clean it well cause if there is any oil on it's not going to go on well. ( not sure how to explain how it looks)

IMO re-upholstered looks alot better but i just bought an entire black gsr interior instead.

Re: painting interior questions HELP

First, search! There's hundreds of threads on here on how to paint your interior, I mean hundreds!

Second, don't paint all that shit, cause it will end up looking like shit.

Third, don't get it re-upholstered. That would be a lot of money that you could spend on buying factory black interior pieces and swapping them out yourself. The dash is crazy easy to take apart, just a few bolts and unplugging a few wires.

true but if you re-upholstered your self its not really expensive probably $200 range to get vinyl and adhesive. however if you do this, remember its alot of work to re-upholster your interior especially if you have never done it before. If you want to go with this option pm eckoman_pdx he has alot of info on it (if i remember correctly he used to have a job as re-upholstering interiors)
