Unhappy caravan starts then quits

I have a 94 caravan that will start for a second then cut off. Will not idle. Tried speeding the engine up and get popping sound like it is backfiring. Tried reading the codes with the key method only get 12 and 55. Is it possiple it could be the cam sensor? Oh it is a 3.3l engine. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Try pulling the negative battery cable off for a couple of minutes to clear codes and then re-install. Try to start engine again. After it fails to start properly then read the codes again and see if a code 11 comes up. This may indicate a bad pick-up asmCam sensor) in the distributor or a bad Crank Position Sensor. This test is not all inclusive but it's worth a try. If either sensor is bad the ASD relay will shut down and you will loose spark and fuel.

Why did you buy a $40K vehicle and not a $100 Factory Service Manual?
