Talking slight problem with my Spray booth I built

I built myself a spraybooth which does work good with my airbrush. But when I start using spray cans in it, I get what I'd call backwash. The paint instead of going to the fan and out of the booth, comes out the front of the booth. I'm not sure what i need to do to fix it. I would have thought my standard bathroom exhaust fan would be powerful enough. I do feel quite a breeze being sucked into the booth.

I do notice this backwash when I use my airbrush at 20 psi and leave it on flat out spraying paint.

Any ideas what could be wrong with my design? or better yet how to fix it?

Re: slight problem with my Spray booth I built

A real spray booth has a plenium(?) chamber between the wall of the sparybooth and the extractor fan. This evens out the air preassure across the full wiidth of the chamber.

Do you you guys have smthg like that? If your smallish diameter fan is fed straight into the spray chamber, maybe it is creating a disturbed air flow and turbulance which you are experiencing as backwash?

On the other hand, maybe what I just wrote is a load of BS and it's smthg completely different - just thought I'd throw up a thought

Problem with the design is you're not pulling enough air through the spray booth, when you start spraying high volume, you're spraying a larger volume than the fan can remove.

Can't get a picture yet but i have been thinking

My fan is i believe 20cm diameter and i have it attached to my spray chamber, there is about 3-5 cms behind the fan then i have a 3 inch hole for my ducting. Is the exit way to small for the size fan i have?

i know the fan is rated at around 200cfm and i know that it is not running at full speed cause of the exit hole being smallish, but my research indicated that my ducting was about the right size. Should i cut another 3 inch hole in my exit and have 2 pieces of ducting coming out instead of 1?
