Notchy shifter
I got a short shifter and though the throws are indeed shorter, the shifter has gotten a lot more notchy and is sometimes hard to put into gear. Is there any way that I can alleviate some of it?

Re: Notchy shifter
probably not..did you buy your shifter on ebay? You can also try putting new tranny fluid in, i know that makes the shifts a hell of a lot smoother..but it priobably won't make it totally better.

Re: Notchy shifter
Yes the shifter is from ebay. When I installed it, I used those rubber bushings/washers from the stock shifter as well as the original bolt...should I use the bolt and washers that came with the shifter? will it help any?

I hope you cleaned everything and regreased all. Also my tranny does the same thing with reverse and first. For reverse I double clutch. And first well it is a fight sometimes. NORMAL... SH |

Re: Notchy shifter
I had this same problem when I first installed my short shifter, I didnt think it should be that hard or difficult to shift but it was almost painful. What I did to fix the problem was I took everything apart at the shifter end of the linkage and greased it up really good. I put it back together and this time I didnt tighten it down so friggen tight (this is key, its really easy to overtighten it and make it bind up). After that my shifter moves around with almost no effort at all, like butta.

Re: Notchy shifter
hmm I think I might have over tightened it...I can't tell what 16lbs of torque is. (what the bolt is supposed to be torqued to, according to the B&M instructions). I am just afraid of the nut falling off while driving...thus letting the bar fall onto my exhaust, and then having the thing stuck in gear. there's like a millimeter of thread left after the washers and bushing etc. Thanks for the replys.
oh and the thing on grinding into reverse...I thought I read in the manual to prevent grinding, the clutch should be depressed for 5 secs, then shifted into reverse. It does work, but I can't wait 5 secs every single time. |

If you are worried about the nut falling off then use some locktite on it.

Re: Notchy shifter
okay, I got underneath my car again today, and loosened the nut a bit. The nut that came with the shifter is a Nylock, so I think I'm set. The shifter moves alot more freely now. (though when I had it tighter, it felt firm and rubbery and my friend said it felt like the s2000's and that I should keep it. but then again it binded sometimes.) Thanks for the help, guys.
