HP question
are those tornado or turbonator things(the thing that goes into your air intake) are they well worth $65? do they really give you 35 HP gains? is it just a scam? just wondering. oh... and would they work on aftermarket cold air intakes?

Re: HP question
Are those silly things still around ? The idea of it was to cause turbulence in the carburator, which was suposed to reduce the amount of liquid fuel droplets getting into the engine (liquid fuel goes out the tailpipe unburned, only the vapor burns) so even if it did work with a carb (which it doesn't), it shure wont work with ported injection. anyway where do you think the power to turn it comes from ? It comes from the engine.

Re: HP question
No, they are not worth it. 35hp, where did you hear that??
I read a magazine review for all those car products that "give you hp and mpg". All the reviews came back negitive. One of the products they tested was the tornado. I remember that for the conclusion of the Tornado test they said, "the tornado creates turbulance, why would you want something to slow down the air into the engine, free flowing is better than turbulance. The air will find the shortest route." If you want your car to have good mpg, I suggest you keep it maintaned. Good spark plugs, wires, fuel system cleaner, good oil, top off tires with air, replace filter (if needed) etc.... -Brian

Re: HP question
The Tornado and Turbonator is only good at one thing, making the seller rich. I suppose is would make a narly cookie cutter. If they did work, every car would have one in it from the factory.

Re: HP question
theoretcially they make the air spin which is supposed to mix the fuel and air better in the combustion chamber. the only thing that i know of that helps that is swirling the back of the valves.

Re: HP question
Right! The plate in the throttle body is almost closed for normal driving. How could the air swirl with a partial throttle body setting? It might work for a larger opening of the plate like acceleration and full throttle, but I don't think so. If anything, as has been said, it restricts air flow into the engine. The seller of this item is getting rich because the raw materials and labor to make it couldn't be more than a dollar.

Re: HP question
they work if you car has a carb and you have to be past mid range in the rpms before it has any effect, but thats it. Your better off getting an intake.
