Re: new Fuel Pump

For one, what year is the truck? For two, why was the fuel pump replaced, was this the original problem that made you replace the fuel pump? Is the check engine light on? Have you already tried to pull any check engine codes? If you have recently had a fuel pump go out it would be a good idea to replace the fuel filter if it has not already be done, and very well cause be the problem to begin with. If you don't have a check engine light or any trouble codes, and a fuel filter has been replaced I would check the fuel pressure. Depending on what year it is will determine what the fuel pressure should be

Why would you change the pump and not the filter? Kinda like taking a shower without soap.

code?

Re: new Fuel Pump

First thing you need to do is get the trouble codes pulled, if you go to Auto Zone or an Advanced Auto Parts or some other auto parts stores might do it, they can ussually read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes with a codereader. You want to know the exact code it is showing, it will look something like a P0132 or something like that. They might try to say it says the oxygen sensor or another sensor is bad, but a code will not tell you that. Fuel pressure valve? Are you refering to the fuel pressure regulator, or the shrader valve (test port) on the fuel rail? The reason you change a fuel filter when you change a fuel pump is that a partially restricted fuel pump could put could caise a fuel pump to fail sooner. Dirt in the fuel could cause a pump to fail sooner, thus clogging the filter. When the pump fails there could be debris from the pump that could clog a filter up. Last but not least, they are rather inexpensive and are ussualy easy to replace

Re: new Fuel Pump

Like said get that code. Get that fuel filter. And recheck the fuel pressure.
Here is a guide to checking fuel pressure.
If it is a 4.3 w code.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.
Post back fuel pressure readings.
