Question Fuel Filter

My friend has a 98 V6 Dakota, the dealer claims the fuel filter is part of the pump assembly and I have to purchase the entire assembly. Are they trying to rip me(him) off or is this true?

Re: Fuel Filter

It's very true!!! The fuel filter and pump is a one piece unit that is inside the gas tank. You can do the work yourself, it's not that hard. Plus you'll save some money!!!

Re: Fuel Filter

remove the bed and doing the work on top is way easier. As for price I don't know what they go for, but shop around at some of the parts store for quotes.

If they sell the fuel pressure regulator that is attached to the top of the fuel pump module, there is a filter in there but it's part of the regulator and a pain to get to and you have to replace the complete regulator. Price for regulator is probably real high. If you are gonna replace the pump module order one from an online dealer and save some bucks. Use a coating of dielectric grease on the electrical connections to prevent corrosion. Some offer 25% off List like www.makeitmopar.com then you know you have right one. I have stayed away from the cheap pumps like Master brand. Lifetime warranty and you spend a lifetime replacing them!

Why did you buy a $40K vehicle and not a $100 Factory Service Manual?
