trany prob

i have a 94 4wd. when i put in to drive it takes about 5 seconds to kick in. all of the other gears are fine. its just in drive. and its everytime i put it in drive. what do you guys think

first thing i would check would be the fluid. if it smells nice and sweet and looks cherry red, your ok. if it smells burnt and is dark and nasty, take it in and have the fluid, flushed. that may fix your problem. . If it shifts firm into all your other gears i would suspect that it is ok, otherwise if changing the fluid doesnt help, then you may need to get your tranny rebuilt.
how many miles are on it?

it was do'n it when i got the truck. i got it for cheap so i wasnt really worried about put'n a tranny in if i had to. but anyway. i flushed it when i got the truck and it still is do'n it. the fluid didnt have that nasty smell when i changed it. but it still does it. its got 95 thou on it.
