Tie rod ends and fuel gauge

Just wondering how hard it is to change the tie rod ends? I just went through the wonderful yearly inspection here and I was failed cause the inspector said it looks like my tie rod ends need to be replaced. I was looking in the manual and it looks somewhat easy, but I was wondering if anyone has done it and will I need to replace anything else due to the change?
Also, my fuel gauge is reading full and will not go down, anyone know how to fix it? I usually go by mileage anyways, but I am going to import it back into the states and it has to work. Thanks

Re: Tie rod ends and fuel gauge

you cant really look and say they "look" bad...jack up the car and see if the wheel shakes (like the wheels turn left right...) its easy, just dont turn the nut on the tierod itself (you will see when you are doing it) and it shouldnt mess with the alignment. on a scale of 1-10 i give it like a...2

Re: Tie rod ends and fuel gauge

changing a tie rod will create alignment problems if the new one is not installed the same. the best way to do without an alignment rack is to count the number of turns and mark the inner tie rod where the the old outer meets. If an alignment hasn't been done in a while, not a bad time to do it after tie rod ends.

Re: Tie rod ends and fuel gauge

Great, thanks. I probably need to do an alighnment anyway, I just put the new Eibach springs and new struts on. I dont have any problems it is straight as an arrow, but our vehicles here go through German inspectors and they do not usually like our cars (any types of modifications), they failed me for hood pins which I am fighting right now, you should see me try and get my 66 ElCamino through inspection, they try and fail it every year. Thanks for the help, anyone know about the fuel gauge?
