Hi, I'm considering buying a 2L Manual Nissan Avenir Salut X 1996. It's done 82,000km. Does anyone know if this would be a good buy? What sort of fuel consumption does it have? Any particular problems with this model? How many kms does it do before it tends to get old and tired? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Re: Nissan Avenir Salut X 1996 manual wagon - a good buy?
hmmm.....on a manual i'd be sure to check the clutch pedal travel as an indicator of clutch wear. (although its often possible to judge clutch wear simply by the age of the driver) 2 liter engines usually get decent mileage depending on driving habits and how much crap you make the engine drag around. I once improved my average mileage about 10% by cleaning out my trunk. (I had a bunch of pieces of scrap metal from a welding class...had to be about 100 lbs all together). "what the engine drags around" also refers to the car itself. the same engine will get better mileage if it's moving a smaller car. or if it doesn't have to accellerate it as quickly. go easy on the go pedal, and your car will go easier on your wallet. as far as how worn out the car is, that also has more to do with who put those 80,000km on the clock and what mood they were in. only a mechanic can really give you an accurate gauge about the condition of the engine. I've heard that putting 1000 angry miles on a car is roughly equivalent to 30,000 or so "happy" miles.
Well, that's my 2 cents....rather non-specific, I know....that's how I like it...
