What Kind Of Soap!?!

What kind of soap should you use to wash your car? I heard that dish soap is a bad idea? True? I have always used some 'On Sale' product at Pep Boys or AutoZone...Anyone here...

Yes, dish soap is too strong, it will remove any wax on the car and you usually want to have at least 1 coating of wax. All soaps advertised as being for cars will be gentle enough not to strip wax remaining from your last wax job. I haven't heard of any differences between brands, though many companies want you to use their soap if you use their other products.

I personally like Meguiar's Gold Class Car Shampoo and Conditioner. It doesn't leave any spots on the car. I am a big fan of Meguiars products.

Up until the current car I used the Mpthers P3 three-phase system (cleaner, sealer and carnauba) for clear coat paint - boy that was a lot of work to set up - think waxing and polishing the car completely 5 or 6 times - I hated doing it but was pleased with the finish and its longevity.
Meguiars do a similar range of products and are well regarded too.

I used the Mothers car wash that was recommended for this system which had excellent results.

Currently, the car I have has had a teflon finish applied to the paint finish which does not require detergent (in fact the producer of the finish recommends that you don't use a detergent) so you use clean water to wash the car.

The finish is guaranteed for 3 years and was applied when the car was new.
