no fuel pressure

I have 96 Windstar with 110k miles, which had been running ok.
Yesterday the engin stopped while driving (luckily close to my home). This happened after I made a sharp left turn. I do not know if the two were correlated. Anyhow, I could not start it again although it cranked fine.

I pushed the needle valve on the fuel rail and very little fuel came out. It seemed that there was no fuel pressure. I checked the fuel reset button and it was ok.

This morning, it started up fine without any problem.
Now this is sitting in my garage and I am afraid to take it out (to a repair shop) that it might stop on the way.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there something I can try to fix it temporarily that I can take it to a repair shop?

Re: no fuel pressure

I really don't know what might have caused your problem.
Sounds like one of those intermittent problems that any guess is as good as another. How does one know for sure what caused it when it is working fine now?

I would like to point out that on the '96, the PCM sends a signal to the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). The CCRM contains a number of relays, including the fuel pump relay. Newer windstars have the fuel pump relay in the distribution box in the engine compartment.

I replaced my CCRM with a newer style one that has "better sealed" relays, as per a TSB. I posted pictures of it in my pictures at

Re: no fuel pressure

An update on my windstar problem..

While debating if I should try to take the van to a repair shop risking that it could stop on its way, I realized that the fuel filter was never changed. Since it had to be changed anyway (long overdue and nothing to lose), I tacked the problem myself (took a few days until I got the right tool to remove it - don't try without a right removing tool).
After I took out the old one, I tried to blow from one end, and it was very difficult. It was clogged.
With the new one in, I have been driving for a several days without the stopping problem.
I hope this information is useful for someone.. and do replace your fuel filter.
