Transmission noise 2004 Ranger
I have a 2004 Ranger 2WD with the 3.0 engine, manual transmission. I have noticed some noise coming directly from the transmission, primarily in second gear. It is louder when the engine is cold. It is a continuous scraping/rattling noise, but happens only when the vehicle is rolling, whether the clutch is engaged or not.
Any ideas what might cause this? I had one other Ranger with the same transmission and never noticed any noise from the transmission. I have about 4 months left of warranty, so want to figure out if I need to do something now before it starts costing me money. I appreciate any ideas. This forum has been a lot better at coming up with answers than the dealer. |

Re: Transmission noise 2004 Ranger
It sounds like it has something to do with the clutch system. I agree with mudder. Take it somewhere and have it looked at before your warrenty is up.

Re: Transmission noise 2004 Ranger
Thanks for the comments. I got it to the dealer and the conclusion was the entire transmission needs to be replaced. It sure pays to listen carefully before the warranty is up. This noise was never very loud and even an open window would have covered it up. I've had two rangers and both have needed fairly extensive warranty repairs.
Now if I could just figure out a way to justify a warranty replacement of the 3.0 with a 4.0
