Civic VS 96 eclipse

My buddy talks smack all the time about how his 96 eclipse is faster than my 89 hatch. He only has exhaust, but i'm running a dohc zc, with i/e. I'm also rollin on 17's which could make a big differance. He lost his license for the next few months so we won't be able to race for a while, but what do you guys think? Can i spank him?

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

if it's an RS or GS, it should be an interesting race. If it has a 4G63 underneath the hood, don't waste your time with it, he'll smoke you.

Sweet. When is it NOT a good idea to street race after you finally got your license back, am I right? If the question was "Who's more of a retard?", I'd say it's your friend. Then again I don't know you that well.

And how are your 17s going to make a huge difference?

17's are going to change the gearing....its going to be higher so acceleration is a little slower, but top speed is higher.....It should be an interesting race

not unless you have half a brain, then you size your tires properly and theres no difference in anything. Only thing you have is a little more weight on the tires.

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

how many people honestly do that...most just get a set of rims and w/e tires they can find....i'll almost guarantee you that the 17's that he has now are a larger diameter overall than the stock rims and tires.....

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

His 17's will do zero but rob power during acceleration on that car. If he had a torque monster it might be an advantage. Factor in added weight (assuming) and you can subtract another 4-6 hp.

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

i did that with my rims and tires. I went from a 16 inch stock rim to a 17 inch aftermarket rim. I got smaller tires so that everything stay accurate. I think the stock tires were like 195/55, now with the 17s i have 215/45. There is a difference of less than 1 MPH.

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

1) I think it is a GS but i'm not 100% sure..i i know forsure it's not the awd turbo.

2) I did try and make my wheels the same size as stock. i have 40 series on them and they are only i think an extra inch/inch and a half bigger. I wasn't even looking at buying 17's anyway, i just got such a good deal on them i couldn't pass it up.

3) And yes, street racing is a dumb idea especially if you lost it in the first place for speeding lol. but hey..don't play if you can't pay

Re: Civic VS 96 eclipse

it could be a GS-T and if it is, you're going to lose pretty badly....

lol.

A GS-T should be faster in theory, but don't underestimate how much leverage an opponent with bad driving/launch skills can give ya'.
