Locking Differential-Help
I have a 04 Taco Prefunner V6 dbl cab. Can anyone explain the proper function of the locking diff? I'm not sure if mine is working properly or not. The owner's manual says that you should stop the wheels from moving and then activate the locker. When the indicator stops blinking, the locker is engaged. However, my indicator will just blink until I slowly drive forward. I can then hear the locker engage. What happens if you're stuck? How can the locker engage if you can't move forward? Which is correct?

Re: Locking Differential-Help
The diff lock is where the two rear wheels spin at the same time.. vs. when u start to get stuck, one wheel will turn. Dont use this on a turn because it screws up your tires and and may cause u to roll. the reason u have to drive forward to get it to work is beacause it has to kick into gear.. if your stuck, push your diff. button, then lightly apply the gas until the light stops blinking and it kicks in.. The differential lock has gotten me out of every situation.. ive never gotten stuck and ive been through some pretty thick stuff.
hope this helps |

Re: Locking Differential-Help
Thanks a lot. If the dealer had just explained it to me the way you did, it would have saved me some irritation. I'll take your suggestion next time I'm out.
