Hia all, new here blahblahblah blah appreciate any replies

The FAQ seems to be all about performance stuff, so perhaps you'll feild my basic questions. please pardon if this seems trite.

I have an opportunity to purchase a '96 PI for $1500. It's very clean and seems to drive like a much younger car than it is, but it does have156K on the clock. ITs got new brakes and coil packs and tires. Maintanence books are there and seem to be impeccable. There are a couple of silly things wrong with it, but i figure that;s in the price.

All I want is a nice, cruzo-lux vehicle that doesnt need to be f'ed around with all the time.

Are there particular problems with this model i should check for?

Is the 4.6 the kindof mill i can get to 200000 miles if maintained?

Honestly..do you guys have to wrench on these things all the time?

what 'cop-parts' are on it, and how much greater is the cost of replacement?

Anything else ya think i need to know plz do tell....
thx

Re: prospective owner

i like the crown vic if its well maintained. as far as a lot of major problems, they have a tendency to smoke if the oil changes arent kept up with but that problem is easily fixed. also some of the intakes have been known to blow out up front at the coolant passage. if its plastic that may or may not be a small concern, if its aluminum dont worry about it. some of them have problems with the egr passages getting blocked up pretty quick but thats also pretty easy to fix but its also a tad on the time consuming side. thast about all i can think off off hand.

Re: prospective owner

RC,

The CV is a great car, and they are VERY reliable when treated even decently. Abuse them, and like anything it will bite you.

I recently rode in a '03 Town Car with 387,000 miles on it, the engine and trans had never bee touched except for routine maintenance.

$1500 is fair if the car is in good condition (looks/drives), and it sounds from your description that it is.

Look to spend about $250/tear on repairs and routine stuff like oil changes.
