Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

Okay, some of you may know I was looking for an engine.. Well I finally found an AMAZING DEAL.

350+Transmission = $850
a little over 5k miles on both.

Only thing is, it's a carburetor.. is that a bad thing?

Re: Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

I've got no idea right now. I'm going to take a look at it pretty soon and take a guy from work with me, he's got a bunch of stuff to test the engine or something?

You have to keep in mind.. MOSER = CAR NOOB! lol.. I have no idea what that is or how much it would cost or what. Could I do that myself and would that save on gas milage? What about power?

I have to admit though, for being here just about a week i have learned alot of stuff I never knew. Hence "I have learned."

But what are the down sides to a Carburetor?

FI= fuel injection. downside to carb is bad gas mileage

Re: Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

TPI systems usually go for around 500 bucks and thats the route I would go. Carbs can make alot of power but for lower emissions and better fuel economy I would go for a TPI and just swap in some shorter runners. Good luck,.

So what exactly is a TPI? *embarassed* I'm sorry. So should I go ahead and try and get it if everything checks out alright? Chances are I won't swap it in right away, It will be sitting for awhile before get around to finding somebody at work to put it in for me.. So I may be able to do stuff with it before it goes it.

Re: Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

At this moment, I'm not to sure.. Like I said I haven't really taken a close look at it, all I've done is made a couple calls to the guy to get some info. I will be looking at it pretty soon however.

So a TPI would cost around 500.. how long does that take to install, and how hard is it? Is it possible to be done by yourself?

Re: Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

Yeah, its not too difficult to install and most of them I see go for around 500.00 for a complete system.

Re: Carburetor or Fuel Injection?

TPI is the induction method used in the irocs from 86-92 and on corvettes from 85 (I think) to 91. they make a lot of torque and get typically around 17-18 mpg city (for me at least).
