HP/TQ output

hey evrybody i was just curious as to how much torque and horsepower my 1988 caprice classic brougham 4 barrel is capable of letting out.no major horsepower upgrades have been added and evrywhere i went to they didnt have a haynes or chilton for my caprice so i wouldnt know.thanks.

You should be pushing about 170 HP and just above 250 ftlbs of Torque of you've got the 305 (5.0 Liter).

Yours will be a touch more due to hydraulic roller lifters and other improvements.

Yes, output was bumped in 1987 when hydraulic roller lifters and cam where used and the compression was bumped.

so would u say about 180-195?maybe 200???thanks for the replies.and if anybody knows alot about carburetors then could u please goto the "choke" thread i have and just check it out and see if you know anything and let me know.thanks

Yes. The improvements bumped it from pre-1987 to 1987, but you would not see 190 HP from the Caprice till the L05 350-cid TBI model released in 1989. Each year after that, output was gradually increased with the greatest changes in 1992 (hotter cam to offset weight increase due to model change in 1991) and the use of the LT1 in 1994.
