exhaust wtf

i just put on a n/t borla exhaust for my 93' 3000gt. everything is hooked up perfect but for wat ever reason it sounds almost exactly like the stock exhaust. How could this be possible????? we think the cat since its so old maybe it could be restricting alot of the air flow, so we might put on a strait pipe and see if that helps. If you have ne ideas or tips PLEASEE!@!! let me know

thanks so much!

Re: exhaust wtf

No shit! didnt you realize the Borla cat-back has two HUGE mufflers on it? its not suppose to be loud at all, those giant canisters are mufflers. the "MUFFLE" the noise.
yes a stright pipe would make it a bit louder.

Re: exhaust wtf

Add an aftermarket downpipe and a high flow cat (just to keep it emissions legal in case you have emissions testing) it it will dramatically change the exhaust note (lower rumble).

Re: exhaust wtf

Changing to a high flow cat would help but if you want loud and emissions are not a problem, no cat would really make it rumble. I put an aftermarket downpipe on mine (Turbo though) and it eliminated the cat. With that, gutted pre cats, and the rest all stock it sounded like I had a full exhaust. But I put a high flow cat on it to calm it down a little and it smoked some because of leaky valve seals. The N/A borla system does have those two big mufflers on it. Try changing the cat and if that is not loud enough run a strait pipe.

Re: exhaust wtf

Will the gaskets from the cat fit the straight pipe ? cause i have the one from 3sx when i baught my downpipe and lemme tell you.....it sounds niiiice with that downpipe on it. You get that nice deep rumble, almost sounds like a V8 when i get on it.

Re: exhaust wtf

i think im gonna take it off n sell it. I spent so much money on it, its not worth keepn it. I guess the only other way is to get a custom job. What other options do i have for a n/t.. and i was lookn at the turbo borla, would that worlk for my n/t? it seems like it would fit. It just a strait pipe instead of all the mufflers

Re: exhaust wtf

You should have gotten the TT Borla. Its not only much louder than the NA Borla, but cheaper.

Re: exhaust wtf

Although borla makes some of the best mufflers around *argueably* a dynomax set of mufflers would be much louder, and probably flow about the same... also, remove your intake resonator and put a piece of intake piping in there instead, and that should help do the trick.

Before you sell it, get the 3SX downpipe (and maybe the test pipe or Random Cat)... I am not a big fan of just upgrading the cat-back system because it's not where the bulk of the restriction is in our cars.

It's a good investment anyways and you might be surprise the difference it might make.
