Clicking noise front wheels

Just had a quick question to run by you guys. I've been experiencing a clicking noise in my front wheels this past most, but only when I turn the wheels more than about 15 degrees when I accelerate. Anyone know what the problem could be and how much it would cost to fix?

Its one of the axels. The best thing would be to replace it, but you can drive it for pretty long time after it starts to tick. Your CV boots are probably shot too.

Well its actually the CV's that are the problem. But in order to fix it, usually both axles need to be replaced. It involves using a breaker bar to remove the axle nut, then remove the axle from the transmission and the hub.

you've got two options if the bearings are still good in the CV joint. Replace the CV boot and repack it with some grease or replace the entire axle. If the bearings are shot, you need to replace the joint, and it's a lot easier to just replace the entire axle.

Re: Clicking noise front wheels

ok, now that i know what the problem is, how much will it cost to fix? Keep it in mind that I'm not a "do it yourself" guy. If the price is too high, I'd probably not opt for the repair since the car is worth no more than $1500.

Re: Clicking noise front wheels

You are looking at about $70 per axle, including CV Half-Shaft Assembly, Remanufactured, Driveshaft Assembly, Rebuilt Assembly With New Parts. Found this at http://thepartsbin.com. I found that the boots were torn on my car so I only replaced them. The boot was about $20 each.

Re: Clicking noise front wheels

The cost that he quoted you in the previous post is about right and is usually a lifetime warrantied item. There is no labor costs associated with his price. For both to be replaced you are looking at about $250.

Re: Clicking noise front wheels

I paid $80 to replace each CV boot. Axels run abou 200 with labor in my area. Just call around auto shops.
