98 supercharger oil change

Hello,
I found the part number for the super charger oil. Anyone have any instructions on how to change it and how much to add?
Thanks for the help,
Also what would happen if I replaced the OEM oil with Full synth?

Re: 98 supercharger oil change

go to walmart and buy a cheap turkey baster with a small nozzle that can fit inside the opening in the SC. After youve siphoned the old fluid out, just pour the new in. It'll take at least one bottle and part of the second. just fill up until you see the fluid reach the top of the threads. Good Luck!

Re: 98 supercharger oil change

I'm not sure of the viscosity of the SC oil, so I can't direct you there, but I would strongly reccommend using the oem oil. I'd be willing to bet that regular synthetic motor oil is a little different than sc oil. SC oil looks like power steering fluid in color. a really clear amber color.

So how much is the OEM oil, & can you only get it from a dealer? I know most of the GM goodwrench oils are brand-labeled Mobil products...

I checked my level the other night and it looked a little low. About 1/2" below the hole. I am thinking of changing it out also, with almost 120k miles on mine. Let me know what you find out...

Re: 98 supercharger oil change

spruce: the dealer has it and you definately need to change it at those high miles. I'm not sure if it's indeed relabeled mobil as you said, but use the Gm stuff. I've heard several opinions on goodwrench oils. Some say its mobil, others say pennzoil and some say GM buys whoever sells it to them the cheapest. GM dealers were selling Shell brand ATF a while back when i was looking for trans fluid. I finally found the goodwrench stuff though

The supercharger is only $3.00 a tube. You will need two tubes. Easy job. I got mine at the dealer.

Re: 98 supercharger oil change

Thanks guys, I'll definitely do the SC oil change. Previous owner said he did everything by the book at the dealer service, but you never really know without any receipts!

Re: 98 supercharger oil change

With the hood open, locate the SC on the left side of the intake manifold. There is a small black plug on the front of the unit that can be removed with an allen wrench. It is an allen type plug, not a torx. you risk damaging the plug by using a torx socket.
