Brake Pads Best Replacemnet for OEM
I am looking for Brake Pads for a daily driven 96 Maxima SE. This car is mainly driven by my wife and is for all intents a grocery/child transporter. The car has 70K miles and the indicator just started to make noise. I see that I can get the following pads....
OEM from Nissan (F) $65.99 (R) $60.99 Advanced Auto - Bendix (F) $24.99 Wearever (R) $12.74 Semi Metallic Auto Zone - Albany (F) $32.99 Carbon Metallic (R) $15.99 Semi Met O'Reilly- Wagner (F) $26.99 (R) $28.99 (F&B are Organic) O'Reilly- store brand (F) $18.99 (R) $15.99 I am sure many of you can tell me good and bad experiences. Also other manufactures. Being an Autocrosser, I do not wish to use Hawk, EBC or any of the other high dollar racing pads. I really would like to find the best pad that yields low dust, is rotor friendly, stops like OE and is relatively cheap compared to OEM pads. From the list above I am leaning towards Advanced Auto or Auto Zone. I hope to hear from you regarding your experience |

whatever you do, DONT get organic or low priced pads, cuz you get what you pay for. Organics r pieces of shit. I bought 20 buck pads for my 92, and like 5-6 months they were gone. At first they were ok, but then after i had to brake hard(emergency) the damn pads got so hot they started to melt, and messed up my rotors really bad. Fortunately, i go the turned, and didnt have to buy new ones. After that i got some like 50 dollar ones, and they worked really good. personally i think the more buck you pay, the more qualit you get with brake pads. NO ORGANIC PADS!!

Now on another hand, I've had TERRIBLE luck with high priced pads. I got the Axxis Metalmasters and they tore up my rotors. I ended up getting Bendix organic pads and have had NO Problems what-so-ever with them.
Everyone's experiences are going to be different, as with everyones opinions. |

hey sarah, why did your rotors tear up? where they stock? i guess you needed slotted rotors, or some aftermarket ones. I just dont trust organics anymore, cuz they dont last long, they dont have enough stopping power, and they heat up too quickly. I remember after a few har brakes they would overheat and start smoking, and then wouldnt work that good.

Ok here is what happened. Last month I got my brakes redone. This is what I got done:
Front & Rear pads replaced with Axxis. I had NEW front rotors installed and had my rear rotors turned. Last week I had to have my rear pads replaced becuase my rear brakes were shot and my car wasn't holding on inclines and I was getting a really bad grinding noise. If you look at the pads you will see that only 1/2 the pad was wearing away. The other 1/2 still looked all rough and brand new out the box. So this week, I am now getting new front pads and getting my front rotors turned.. For the month my car had the bad rear pads on, my front breaks were doing all the work and they put grooves in my brand new front rotors. It's just been a terrible experience all together and I'm getting frustrated. No more high priced pads for me! |

Porterfield pads are REALLY good... pricey, but good.
http://www.porterfield-brakes.com If you do buy from them, get the R4S pads (street).
