dont know if you guys saw the 2 threads that were posted yesterday. "the saga continues" well ne way I posted some results and a few questions reguarding the infamous "Clunk". needless 2say the entire post disappeared. *POOF*only the tittle remained. twice. wtf? so i decided to retype my problem/Questions. ok with you ok with me.lol
So here it goes. After replacing the linkage, havin a complete lube job. having 3 mechanics and myself bangin our heads trying to find the source. I thought i found it. near the shock mount there is a stablizer(i think its a stablizer) there are these 3 bolts that seem to hold this stablizer to the lower A-arm. Well they were nasty loose rustafied and broken. also i have pics i will share with the class 2mar0 lol.So i replaced them tightened those bastards up. took the blazer 4 a test drive. seemed real smooth. no clunk. oh i forgot to say at the begining of this the reason y i started f-ing around with the front end again is under normal steering conditions the clunk is louder and u can really feel it inside the truck. so back to my smooth test drive. everything was perfecto, until i did a 3 point turn. And Boom!!! clunk is back. WTF!!!!! all the research i've done with the GM service bulletins, cross member, shock mount welds, fender washcloth. i have seriously had ENOUGH! Then heres the thing I live in Upstate New York. Its been like 40-50 degrees for a week or two. Yesterday it was almost 60F at say noon it started raining by 4pm we had a blizzard and it was 27F. Its 7F today. The clunk, not that bad. Doesnt happen everytime does temp effect the severity of the unknown problem? Who the fuck Knows?! Now heres the other thing when ever its real cold or real wet/moist the truck runs real funky. like u can floor it and it just putts along and then it will finally kick in or something and take off. but as soon as u let off the gas and floor it again same put put situation. as the beast warms up it get gradually better. 2 day poured some "SEA_FOAM" in the tank hopin 4 a better 2mar0. if ne 1 has ne INpUt. Im waitin to hear from yas. Im clueless at this point. Kelly

I know that wet conditions can also efect the ignition system. I would almost try some silicone spray on the plug wire ends and around the distributer baps base. Although don't hoped your breath waiting for it to work.
With the clunk have you checked the motormounts? I don't remember how the Blazers front calpers are mounted but some vehicles have rubber pads helping to hold them in place. More of a seal than anything but when they rot away the calpers can move around a little which might make a clunking noise. |

Hey Kelly , WOW you used your name , Sorry you are still having problems . How is your boy ?
My older Blazer makes a clunk only once after it has been sitting for a while . I beleive it is the front differential engaging internally . But my front dif is not the same as yours with auto-locking hubs or all wheel drive . Did you find where the coolant was going a couple of weeks ago ? If not , it may be leaking near the distributor causing a wet condition of its own . Your symptoms sound like a wet one . The clunk could be affected by wet condition too , water is a lubricant and it absorbs sound(watch a shuttle launch). Wish I there in the Snow , I would help you out all I could . Rob

GB, have you checked the torsion bar mounts under the rear doors on both sides? There are 2 bushins there that tend to wear out...

Sorry to butt in here but there is a GM TSB refering to a "clunk" which appears to be from the front end but is really coming from the hood mounting bolts. A replacement washer is available. I don't know if this is your problem but just in case I thought I'd mention it.

That isn't butting in cujo, it's mentioning a possibility that could well be ticket.
Plus since it's only a few cents and 10 min to try it's probebly the first thing that I would try. Thanks for bringing it up |

It could be an O2 sensor, that is a little screwed up, a poor/weak connection at some sensor (MAF, TPS, O2, MAP just to name some). Condensation could be geeting in on something, and then the cold freezing up the water causing problems. |

GirlBear, if it's the hood washers don't buy any, i'll mail you mine. I bought some for my Blazer before I sold it and never had the time to put them in. If you want them, E-mail or PM me your address (or any address you want to pick them up at) and I will mail you mine.

I've owned 3 blazers and I'd agree with rlith. TORSION BAR MOUNTS !!! I know a guy that works at the dealer and he told me they are a VERY common replacement on the Blazers. When they get bad it sounds like the front end is going to fall apart. To check them just take a big screw driver or pry bar and jam it in where the torsion bar mounts are located at the back of the torsion bars. If they are worn you will be able to move the torsion bar up and down with the pry bar. The good thing is if that's the prob it's a real easy and cheap fix. Also, a tip for ya if you replace them. If you have a hard time getting the nut on the new ones, cut about 2 threads off the mount bolt with a hack saw. The nut will slip on the bolt easier this way. My buddy told me that trick. You may not have to though because some of the after market mounts have a bolt that threads down through the mount instead. I had to replace them on my old 94 Blazer before (took about 20 mins) and actually, I'll probably be replacing them on my 2000 Jimmy soon because I've been starting to hear mine clunking a bit lately.
